Religious Education For Children

Welcome to Religious Education for the 2011-2012 School Year!

Pre-school through 8th grade students meet on Sunday mornings from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. for a total of 30 sessions.  All the students gather in the school cafeteria and then dismiss to their classes. The first class and orientation meeting is Sunday, September 11th, 2011 in the school cafeteria.

Please note the Sacramental Policy at St. James: Before a child receives any of the sacraments (Reconciliation, First Communion or Confirmation), he or she must attend religious education class the year prior to the sacramental program. This is very important to ensure that children are well prepared and eligible to receive the sacraments. New parishioners will need to provide attendance records for the CCD program they attended prior to coming to St. James and a copy of their child’s baptismal record. Weekly Mass attendance is also required.  If your child does not meet these requirements, please contact Mary Speir at 665-1554 before acceptance into a sacramental program is granted.

The Loyola Press is the main textbook for instruction. Seventh graders are beginning their journey to their eighth grade Confirmation. Retreats, service projects, along with Sunday instruction are all part of the program. Second graders are preparing for First Reconciliation in early 2011 and then will continue to prepare for their First Eucharist in May.

Interested in helping out with Religious Education?  There is always a spot for you in the Program. If you feel the desire to teach, assist, or substitute for Religious Ed., please call Mary Speir at 665-1554 for more information.
