Forming Disciples, Leading All to Christ

Saturday, 07 December 2019

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, this fall, we participated in the Forming Disciples, Leading All to Christ program to increase our offertory for the purposes of increased evangelization opportunities and strengthening our ministries. This program gave everyone a chance to reevaluate what they were giving in the weekly offertory so that St. James could continue the good work being done and increase evangelization and outreach efforts. I would like to give a little report on the results in this Pastor’s Corner.

Overall it was a success! Thank you to everyone who returned a commitment card, even if you couldn’t increase your offertory! The participation in the program is important. 28% (263 out of 942) of parishioners who have given in the past year returned their cards. 3% of those who did not give in the past year returned cards with new commitments. These percentages are on par with and compare favorably to the national trend. We could do better, but I think that is a good response for our first program like this.

How does this work out monetarily? Those who returned commitment cards with an increase in their weekly offertory on the card represent a 50% increase over previous offertory giving which is an increase of $220,000. This is extraordinary! Thank you for your generosity.

Increased Evangelization Efforts

A blessing of this program is the ability to expand our Evangelization efforts in the parish. You will notice a new kiosk with more CDs, books, and pamphlets in the Narthex. This upgrade in the evangelization kiosk is a result of this program. Also, we are fortunate to be able to bring in Matt Fradd as our Advent Parish Mission speaker on December 11-14, 2019. He is a young, dynamic speaker, author, and apologist for our Catholic Faith (www.mattfradd.com). These days he will lead us in exploring ways we can allow our Catholic Faith to inform our life more and more. Come and invite your friends! Please be on the lookout for more information!

Thank you for your tremendous response to his program. Throughout the year, I will let you know how we are Forming Disciples and Leading All to Christ.  The Lord Jesus has blessed each of us with all we have. When we give to our parish (each according to their ability), we continue His mission in the world and in our community. The people of St. James give generously of their time, talent, and treasure in all the many ministries, prayers opportunities, and social outreaches! I never cease to be edified by all that I see!

A Blessed Advent to you and your families!

May the Lord Jesus abundantly bless you all!
