Sacrament of Reconciliation
Saturday, 11 January 2020
Wednesday, January 8th, the 2nd graders experienced for the first time the Sacrament of Reconciliation! It was a beautiful evening! These young people received the gift of the Lord’s forgiveness and mercy through this Sacrament of Healing for the first time! This Sacrament is magnificent and is a treasure.
We are blessed to have it available often at St. James: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7:45-8:15 AM; Wednesday 5:00-6:00 PM; and Saturday 3:45-4:45 PM. I am pleased to see the lines for each of these time slots! Opening ourselves to the healing graces and power of the Mercy of God is the way to holiness. These young people have started on that way. Let’s give them good example by frequenting this Sacrament ourselves!
Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA)
Next week we kickoff the Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). The Diocese decided to change the name from the Bishop’s Annual Appeal to the Annual Catholic Appeal. This is a more accurate name because it is an appeal not for the Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah, but to support the growth of the Catholic faith and the practice of the faith by the people of the Diocese of Savannah. These funds collected help us send young men to the Seminary to be formed and trained for the priesthood. They assist evangelization ministries and support parish religious education programs in the parishes of our Diocese.
Last year, St. James exceeded our goal by $33,000! We should be proud of that! We surpassed the goal with 355 families (that is 26% of the registered and active families) of our parish contributing. I would love to see us increase the number of families to 375 this next year. Let that be our goal!
The ACA begins next week. This week, you should be receiving information in the mail. Prayerfully consider a gift to the Appeal. Each one of us should do what we can to support the planting of seeds of faith all over our Diocese – the 90 Counties of South Georgia. If we all give something, we can meet our goal in no time! Thank you for your generosity.
A Catholic artist, Kate Capato, will be at our parish next weekend, January 18-19, and will be giving a 30 minute presentation on art and beauty in our Catholic faith while displaying some of her art. I invite everyone to attend a session. See the flyer in the bulletin for more details.
May the Lord Jesus bless you and your families this week!
